ATKINSON, A., Roger, Sr., age 76, of Beavercreek, passed away Friday, June 13, 2003 at Hospice of Dayton. In 1955, with the help of 2 lifelong friends Warren & Paul Garber, Roger and wife, Martha started Atkinson Transfer Co. The business grew to one of the largest privately owned fleets in Ohio with the help of many loyal friends and employees. In 1963, in partnership with the Garber Brothers, purchased the former Master Electric Property starting Mega City Warehousing Center with Roger serving as president. In 1986, with friends Carl Schroder, Charles Norman and Jay Moran started Schroder Industries with Roger serving as Chairman of the Board until they sold in 1992. In 1989, Roger retired from Jet Express. Roger proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 2 years. He played Santa at Woodland Lights for 12 years and at Children's Hospital. Roger was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 43 years. He was also a member of the Dayton Agonis Club, Alpha Lodge #729, Ancient Order of Scottish Rite, Antioch Temple, Warren Co. Shrine Club, Royal Order of Jesters Dayton Court #10, Past President of Miami Valley Transportation Club., Past President of Ohio Trucking Assoc., and Past President of Miami Valley Council of Boy Scouts. Preceded in death by parents, John and Ruth Atkinson, brother, Carl and sisters, Opal and Esther. Survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha; 3 children, Gregory F. of Beavercreek, Amy R. Atkinson (Kevin) Hogan of Clayton; and A. Roger, Jr. of Riverside; 4 grandchildren, Jonathan, Michael, Janet and Jennifer Hogan. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 21, 2003 at the Normandy United Methodist Church, 450 W. Alexandersville-Bellbrook Rd., Miamisburg with Rev. Baer and Rev. Ed Puff officiating. Entombment at Woodland Cemetery, Dayton. Family will greet friends Friday evening from 5-8:00 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, with Masonic services to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420, Miami Valley Council Boy Scouts of America, P.O.
