Alan Devon Reed

REED, Alan Devon, age 70, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024 in Venice, FL. Alan was born on July 30, 1953 in Dayton, OH to the late Walter Burton and Bernice Jane Reed. 


He was a roofer and enjoyed gardening, swimming, arrowhead hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, wood carving, woodworking, and raising chickens and bees. Alan enlisted in the U.S. Army when he was 17 years old and served from 1971-1974. Battling in the frontlines of the Vietnam War at the young age of 18 left its mark on Alan. 


He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Burton Reed; mother, Bernice Jane Reed; and sister, Rosemary Roby. Alan is survived by his sons, Burton Reed, James Reed, and Elijah Reed; daughter, Jana Cote; grandsons, Ralph Reed, Kai Reed, and Jack Reed; granddaughter, Tasha Reed; sisters, Roxanne Pieratt, Jeanine Gaver, and Paulette Robinson. 


Family will greet friends from 11:00am-12:30pm on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, with a funeral service to start at 12:30pm. Rev. Bill Bowman officiating. Final resting place is Bellbrook Cemetery. Fond remembrances and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.routsong.com
