Alan Watton, Jr, passed on October 21, 2009, age 94. He was born on August 9, 1915, in Seattle, WA, the eldest son of Alan and Charlotte (Milne) Watton and preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice (Strome) Watton, and his second wife, Helen (Schumacher) Watton. Dr. Watton is survived by two children, Charlotte Sue Sadowski (Dennis) of San Diego, CA, John Watton (Barbara Blades) of Pensacola, FL; two brothers George Watton of Seattle, WA and Edward Watton of Redmond, WA; and, numerous nieces, nephews, and his son's stepchildren and grandchildren. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1939 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and received a PhD in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the Ohio State University in 1968. Employed for 36 years as a Research Engineer within the Aeronautical Systems Division at Wright Patterson AFB, Dr. Watton achieved the position of Director of Advanced Systems Concepts. Additionally, he retired as a LCol from the USAF Reserves after serving active duty during the WWII and Korean Wars. He was an active member of the Engineers Club of Dayton, the new "Barn Gang", MENSA, and various engineering societies, including ASHRAE, AIAA, IEEE, ISA, and Sigma Xi. From 1981 to 1993, he was a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering Technology at Sinclair Community College. Subsequently, he served as a Research Advisor under a National Science Grant in the Department of HVAC at Sinclair and was the founder of the Mechanical Engineering Technology Faculty Education Scholarship, a program to aid heating and air engineering faculty in their education. Alan Watton was active in and Past President of the Montgomery County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, and served for several years on the Oakwood Citizen's Housing Committee. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Road, Kettering. Family will receive friends 11:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will be in New Carlisle Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests consideration of contributions to St. Paul's Episcopal Church or the ASPCA in memory of Misha and Bailey, his walking companions. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Sunrise of Oakwood, Acclaim Hospice and St. Paul's Episcopal Church for their care and concern to Alan.
