Alvin S. "Al" Lewis

LEWIS, Alvin S. "Al", age 90, of Kettering, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014. Al was born in Hamilton County on July 21, 1924 to the late Henry S. and Eithel Lewis. He served in the United States Army Air Corps 388 Bomb Group during WWII and worked for many years as an electrician for Newco. Following his retirement, he worked for Routsong Funeral Home as one of their many dedicated and hardworking employees. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, VFW Post #9927, American Legion Post #598, a 65 year member of IBEW, and a past president of Dor-Wood Optimist Club. Al was in the Fairmont High School Class of 2002. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Martha Lewis in 2001; and daughter, Kathryn Shipley in 1996. Al is survived by his longtime partner and special friend, Iris Williams (and family); daughter, Martha (Stephen) Lychock of Arizona; son, Doug (Karen) Lewis of Kettering; grandchildren, Ernie Goenaga, Shannon (Angie) Shipley, Shelby (Brian) Shipley, Adam (Courtney) Lewis, Meredith (Isaac) Mannier, Lisa (Jack) Measures, and Rachel (Kevin) Henley; 7 great-grandsons and 7 great-granddaughters; and sisters, Ella Mae Schindler and Dorothy Sanktjohannser, along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family will greet friends from 5:00-8:00pm on Monday, August 18, 2014 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Road, Kettering. A funeral service will be held the following morning at 10:00am, also at the funeral home with Rev. Jamie Vannoy officiating. Burial will be held at David's Cemetery.
