Andrew Francis McKelvey, age 86, of Centerville, OH, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 30, 1937, in Hazleton, PA, to the late Frank and Florence (Grazio) McKelvey.
Andy was a devoted husband of 63 years to his beloved wife, JoAnn. He was a loving father to Bob (Patti), Mary Pat Simmons (John), and Tim (Carla). His grandchildren, Andrew, Robbie, Molly McKelvey, Thomas and Matthew Simmons, and Megan, Daniel and Jack McKelvey brought him endless joy. He also leaves behind his dear sister Nancy Tranguch (Benny) and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Charles (Blair), Mary Catherine Welling (Jack), Margaret Simko and Thomas (Margaret).
A 1953 graduate of St. Gabriel's High School, Andy went on to pursue higher education at King's College and Penn State, where he earned his master’s in engineering. He had a passion for baseball from a young age and proudly played for the Diamond Dusters Little League Team, representing his hometown in the Little Bigger League championship in Williamsport, PA.
Andy embarked on a successful career, starting at Philco Ford before joining NCR Microelectronics Division in 1971. He retired from NCR Microelectronics as the Director of Manufacturing of the Semiconductor Division. His leadership and dedication were evident throughout his professional life, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and peers.
Andy loved spending time with his extended family and was the driving force behind the annual “McKelvey Reunions” at Stone Harbor, NJ. He made sure everyone always had a great time. Upon retiring, Andy and JoAnn relocated to Sanibel Island, FL, where he remained active in his community. He volunteered his time at St. Isabel Catholic Church and Big Arts, embodying his faith and commitment to service.
Andy was a pillar of strength to his family and friends, known for his kindness, integrity, humor, and unwavering love. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A funeral Mass to honor and celebrate Andy's life will be held at Incarnation Catholic Church in Centerville, OH on Thursday, March 21 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to support Parkinson’s research.
