Ann Elizabeth Blaeser

December 5, 1933 — May 29, 2016

Ann Elizabeth Blaeser passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2016. Born in Dayton, Ohio on December 5, 1933 to Helen McGee Lyons and Charles Lyons, she was 82 years old. In her junior year at the University of Dayton, Ann met her future husband, Henry Paul Blaeser. Following her graduation, they were married on October 22, 1955. Last fall they celebrated their 60th anniversary. Paul has been her loving husband and, for over fifteen years, her devoted and selfless caregiver. Their love story is a vibrant example of having and holding each other close, "for better, for worse, in sickness and in health." Ann's four children, their spouses, and her seven grandchildren were blessed by her love for them, pride in them, and the joy she felt when in their presence. Daughter Lynn and her husband John Schoener, daughter Lori, her husband John Cashdollar and their children Caleb and Amy, son Tim Blaeser, his wife Susan and their children Allison (husband Ryan Gillooly) and Carly, and son Vince Blaeser, his wife Lorie and their children Julia, Joel, and Audrey will greatly miss and remember her bright light in their lives. Ann is also survived by two sisters, Jeanne Leist and Linda Petric, and a brother, Al Lyons. A lifelong resident of Dayton, Ann had a cherished and supportive circle of friends. Entertaining and traveling with them was a highlight of her life. She loved art and artists, family photographs, flowers, films, and sports. She was a gifted gardener, an accomplished cook, and her discerning eye for color and design was also reflected in her passion for fashion. As a teenager, she went to the movies multiple times a week and treasured her collection of autographed photos of the movie stars she admired. Ann was an avid fan of the Buckeyes, the Flyers, and the Bengals. Ann began her career at age sixteen, taking dictation from doctors at Good Samaritan Hospital as they described the medical condition of their patients. Following her years at Julienne High School, where she graduated with honors and had a perfect attendance record, she worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. While attending college at UD, Ann worked for the Talbot Corporation. Upon her graduation, with honors, she continued to work there full time until her first child was born. Sixteen years later, when her youngest child was ten, she returned to work for attorney Daniel Nagle for a decade. In her final career chapter, Ann represented a national art and interior decorating firm, training and managing a multi-state sales team. Once her grandchildren began to arrive on the scene, she happily redirected her passion and energy to the role of grandmother. Her genuine interest in people - their lives, loves, adventures, and challenges - put her skills of connection and encouragement to excellent use. She was ever alert for information, ideas, or resources that could make life easier and more fun for the people in her circle. An early adopter of technology, Ann was a prolific e-mailer and texter, and a proficient user of the Internet to research, learn and share her discoveries with others. Her appetite for learning was well-fed in recent years by regular attendance at UDLLI, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute; she and Paul enjoyed taking classes on history, technology, and spirituality. Ann was grateful for her community at Washington Heights Baptist Church and the inspiration she received in the final years of her faith journey. Family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00pm on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering.
