KIEFABER, Annette L., age 95 of Washington Township died Friday, April 27, 2012 at Bethany Village.
Annette was the middle daughter of Dr. Harry and Edna Lautenschlager. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Eugenie Vradelis and Suzanne Lautenschlager, and by her husband of 69 years Warner H. Kiefaber, Jr. Annette attended Longfellow Grade School and graduated from Oakwood High School. She was a standout in both basketball and field hockey and was selected Most Outstanding Senior Girl in her graduating class of 1935.
Following graduation she attended Western College for Women. On June 17, 1941 she married former high school classmate, Warner Kiefaber on his birthday and just one day after his commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy. WWII was a time of long separations and brief visits.
Annette was an active volunteer in the greater Dayton community. As a lifelong member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church she was a member of the Altar Guild and served in the Clown Ministry. She was a Hospice volunteer from it's inception, a sustaining member of the Junior League of Dayton, a volunteer for AIM (Adventures In Movement) for the Handicapped, Kettering Hospital, a board member of the Senior Citizens Association and the YWCA. She was a member of Moraine Country Club and the Four Seasons Garden Club.
Annette and Warner enjoyed summers at their cottage in Canada where they entertained family and friends and even tackled a number of building projects, some of them a bit overwhelming and occasionally precarious. The two of them also enjoyed trips abroad, golfing and gardening.
Annette is survived by four children: Warner H. Kiefaber, III (Carolyn), Josephine K. Higinbotham (Randall) of Virginia, Dr. Robert W. Kiefaber (Leslie) and John M. Kiefaber (Vicky). She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 4th at 10:30AM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 33 West Dixon Ave. in Oakwood. The family will receive guests in the church cloister following the service.
