LOSH, Armin Pete Peter, age 96, of Centerville, OH, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017.
Pete is a widely acclaimed artist who was born on December 17, 1921. His education includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Dayton and the Dayton Art Institute. Pete is a WWII Navy Vet serving over 4 years in the Pacific Theatre. He fought in over 30 battles, primarily aboard the USS Essex, eventually earning numerus medals including Asiatic-Pacific Medal, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, American Area Medal as well as a Presidential Unit Citation. He was honorably discharged in 1946 at the rank of Yeoman First Class. Following the war, in his early career he was a reporter for DDN, an Illustrator for the U.S Government Weapons Systems Division, a layout artist for Prominent Dayton Advertising Ferns, and later went on to establish his own advertising company, Peter Losh and Associates Inc, in Dayton. In 1993, he accepted a position at the University of Dayton as the Art Student Internship Director. Most recently he served as a water color and multimedia instructor, and resident artist at St. Leonards. Pete was an avid aviator and airplane enthusiast. He was an instrument rated pilot and stunt flyer. He was a proud member of the National Aviation Hall of Fame and served on the nominating committee. Pete was also a member of the Dayton Pilot Club, the Dayton Art Institute, the Dayton Advertising Club, UD Alumni Association, the Dayton Art Center, and the Western Ohio Watercolor Society. Pete was beloved by his family and many friends. His personality and artistic ability will be greatly missed.
Pete was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Margaret (Griffin) Losh; parents, Glenna and Bernard Losh, who was a renowned editor for DDN; his brother, Warner James, who was an accomplished classical composer and pianist; and sisters, Virginia and Rita. He is survived by his sons, Phillip and Jeffrey Losh.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St. Centerville, OH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, December 29, 2017 at St. Leonards. Entombment will be held at Davids Mausoleum.
