Barbara Ann Hughes

HUGHES, Barbara A., (nee Foley) age 53, of Kettering passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at her home. She was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church, Kettering. Barbara received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Maryland in 1977. Barbara was an analytic chemist for the National Institute Health Center in Bethesda, MD. She met her husband Edward at Johns Hopkins University where she spearheaded the new viral facility and earned a second degree in Business from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Barbara was a docent at the Smithsonian Institute for 17 years. She was a member of Twigs for 13 years and TRI (Therapeutic Riding Institute). Barbara enjoyed many crafts, cross stitching and was an avid quilter and seamstress. She also enjoyed gardening, animals, bird watching and loved traveling the world with her daughter Kristin. She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Dr. Edward Hughes; daughter, Kristin Hughes of Dayton; parents, Joseph and Loretta Foley of MD; father and mother-in-law, Norman and Irene Hughes of PA; 2 sisters, Patricia Foley of MD and Janet (Jordan) Kocen of VA; 3 brothers, John, Dennis and David Foley all of MD; sister-in-law, Kathy (Joseph) Whall of NJ; and nephews, Asher and Aubrey Kocen of VA and James and Julia Whall of NJ. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 10:30 AM at St. George's Episcopal Church 5520 Far Hill Ave., Dayton with Rev. James Larsen and Rev. Paul St. Germaine co-officiating. Burial in David's Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday from 5-8:00 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering.
