It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Barbara L. Hosford, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, who left this world on February 6, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Dayton, OH, Barbara dedicated her life to bringing joy and adventure to those around her. She was a devoted wife to her husband, John L. Hosford, with whom she shared over 60 wonderful years of marriage.
Barbara will be remembered for the warmth she brought into every room, filling them with laughter, fun, and a touch of adventure. She cherished family gatherings, making holidays special with her love for decorations, from Christmas trees to leprechauns and pumpkins, she ensured every occasion was memorable. Her passions included camping, boat rides, card games, and making homemade donuts and camper's stew, while creating countless cherished memories with her family.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Rita (Reinert) Schwartz; her siblings, Gary (Wanda) Schwartz, Lee Schwartz, Joanilla Schwartz, Daniel Schwartz, and brother-in-laws, Kenneth Hindman and Volley King; as well as her dear grandson, Eli Hosford, and great-grandson, William Rossi.
She is survived by her devoted husband, John L. Hosford; her beloved children and spouses, Michael (Christine), John (Joy), Nicholas (Jill), and her cherished daughter, Tina; her siblings, Mimi (Dick) Moebius, Renee (Thomas) Teague, Jenny Hindman, Cindy (Michael) Seibert, Amy King, Angie Schwartz, and sister-in-laws, Cathi (Jim) Heaton, Jan Schwartz, and Chris Schwartz; and a vast and loving family that includes grandchildren, Cassie (Brian) Rossi, Brandon, Daniel, Sydney, Aaron, Luke, Noah (Morgan), Sarah (Joshua) Hood, Elizabeth, Simon, Abigail, Ethan, Jacob (Kim), Timothy (Sophia), Andrew, Katie, Marcus; step-grandchildren Adam (Tara), Kyle (Kelsey), Elliott Heckler as well as her treasured great-grandchildren, Emma Rossi, Ella Joy Hood, and Matthew James Hosford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Routsong Funeral Home in Kettering on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, from 5:30-7:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Ascension Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 11am, with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, 1625 Calvary Ave., Dayton, OH. The reception will follow at Routsong Funeral Home in Kettering, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Barbara's extraordinary life. The ceremony will reflect her vibrant spirit and the love she shared with everyone. We invite all who knew her to come together to honor her memory and share in the joy she brought to our lives.
Barbara will forever hold a special place in the hearts of her family and friends. Her legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will continue to inspire all of us as we carry her spirit with us always.
