Barney L. Jefferson

JEFFERSON, Sr., Barney L., age 90, long term resident of San Angelo, passed away in Dayton, OH, on Wednesday, May 25, 2011. Born in Oklahoma, Barney graduated from Oklahoma A&M College, now Oklahoma State University, in 1940. He entered the U.S. Army in November 1944 and was stationed in Germany. He had a long career in the field of soil and water conservation, working for both the federal government and the State of Texas. He retired in 1986. Barney's desire was for his remains to be scattered over the Texas soil he worked to restore and protect. Barney is survived by his beloved wife of 71 yrs, Dorothy Mercer Jefferson; son Barney L. Jefferson, Jr. and wife Patsy Sanders of San Angelo, TX; daughters Carol Barnhill of Alexandria, VA, and Linda Suter of Kettering, OH; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. He was a long time member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in San Angelo, TX. Memorial services will be held at 4:00PM on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville, OH 45458. Family will receive guests until 6:00PM. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.routsong.com.
