NICHOLS, Bernadine “Bernie” Ann (nee Beringer), age 70 of Kettering, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011. She was born and raised in Dayton, OH. Bernie attended Julienne High School and received her Bachelors Degree in Library Science from the University of South Florida in 1966 and her Masters in Library Media from Wright State University in 1989. She taught at Brookville High School from 1990-1999 and was the current Librarian for Kettering Middle School and Media Coordinator for Kettering Schools. Bernie was a longtime member of Christ Child Society and a member of the Ohio Educational Library Media Association. Formerly of Detroit, Tampa, Meridian, MS, Louisville, Chicago, Youngstown, Bernie loved to travel. She especially enjoyed Caribbean cruises, travel through Europe, Alaska and Canada and all the west coast states. She was devoted to her family, and her dogs, and enjoyed cooking for everyone. Bernie was passionate about teaching and truly loved her work. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Ursula M. Beringer and sister, Mary Angela Beringer. Bernadine is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Carl A. Nichols; Daughter, Bridget Nichols-Truax; grandchildren, Peter, Zachary and Sydney Truax; brothers, William (Linda) Beringer, Timothy (Linda) Beringer, Peter (Susie) Beringer and Vincent (Bridget) Beringer; sisters, Helen (Bob) Gates and Mary Cozine; nieces and nephews: William (Tonya) Beringer III, Arnie (Jamie) Beringer, Timothy (Meghan) Beringer Jr., Rosemary (Matt) Sprecher, Robert (Danielle) Beringer, Jeffrey Beringer, Julie (Rich) Pepin, Theresa (Billy) Conley, Patrick Cindrich, Kelly Gates, David Gates, James W. Beringer, Owen Beringer, Katherine Beringer, and Elizabeth Beringer; great-nieces and nephews: Annabelle, Delaney, William J. IV, Oscar, Quincey, Chance, Timothy III, Lilia, Jack, Emerson, Abby, Brady, Luke, Maxwell and future Bronco; as well as numerous cousins and life long friends. A memorial service will take place at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, OH on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 10:00am. A celebration of Bernie’s life will take place following the service until 3:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to The Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, OH 45420.
