Bernard F. Harris

HARRIS, Bernard F., age 87, of Kettering, formerly of Wheeling, WV, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2012. Bernard was a graduate of Wheeling High School in Wheeling, WV. He later went to earn his Bachelors in Education from West Liberty College and his Masters in Guidance from Miami University of Ohio. Bernard served his country as a US Army Sgt. during WWII and in Battle of the Bulge. He was a teacher, coach and guidance counselor for Kettering Schools for many years and was the Rules Interpreter for the State of Ohio. Bernard was a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association, VFW Post #9927 and numerous other organizations. He started many sports leagues in Kettering and had the Bernie Harris Softball Fields in Delco Park named after him. Bernard was also a founder of "Kettering Officials" and was awarded a Key to the City. Preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie Harris, and sister, Jane Selas. Bernard is survived by loving wife of 56 years, Lillie Harris, son, Jeffrey Jack (Anne) Harris, daughter, Dorothy Marie (Kevin) Harris, grandchildren, Bernie, Brandon, Jennifer, and Nick; and nieces, Cathy (Jim) Daughtery and Rebecca (Milt) Erwin. Family will greet friends from 5:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop Road, Kettering. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Ascension Catholic Church, 2025 Woodman Drive, Kettering, OH 45420.
