LUTZ, Bette Alice (nee Denice), age 79, died peacefully in her sleep early Sunday, December 6, 2015, with her daughter by her side after a night listening to jazz and music from The Nutcracker. She was 79. Bette was born October 25, 1936 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Gerard Magellan Denice and Freda Elizabeth ("Elsie") Albansoder Denice. She grew up in Springfield, Pennsylvania, and moved to Ohio to attend Denison University, where she met her husband Dr. Robert Joseph Lutz. They settled in Dayton (Oakwood) in the early 1960s, where she raised her 4 children. Bette volunteered for many organizations including Hospice of Dayton. She was an avid gardener, and belonged to the Four Seasons Garden Club of Dayton and the Live Oak Garden Club of San Antonio. She was an active member of Delta Gamma Sorority (Denison), Le Club and The Junior League of Dayton and San Antonio. Bette was a talented athlete, musician and artist. She was women's singles and doubles tennis champion at Dayton Country Club and actively involved at Virginia Hollinger. She played high school and college field hockey, and helped coach Oakwood's field hockey team. She filled the Lutz home with beautiful classical piano music played for hours at a stretch. She always had a painting in progress. Following her divorce, Bette went back to college to study the then new science of computer programming, graduating from Wright State University. She became a Technical Writer and Software Engineer for EDS and she managed the weapons database for Lockheed Martin at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, and then worked for Lockheed in San Antonio. Bette had a Top Secret security clearance, and she was instrumental in the developing the mobile uplink to the satellite guided weapons systems. In 2005, Lockheed's President awarded her the Class Five Certificate award at a ceremony in downtown Manhattan.
