Betty Lou Porterfield

PORTERFIELD, Betty age 82 of Kettering formerly of Clarke County, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2011. Betty was a graduate of Murray (IA) High School. On June 17, 1950, she married Charles E. Porterfield, and they made their home in Des Moines, Iowa, then Bloomington, Minnesota, and then settled in Kettering, Ohio in 1976. She was an active Presbyterian and member of Presbyterian Women's organizations throughout her adult life. She retired from the Department of Energy in the finance department at EG&G Inc. in 1992. Betty volunteered at Oak Creek Terrace, and served as a Deacon and youth fellowship volunteer in Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed golf and baking. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Helen Spellerberg and brother, Richard E. Spellerberg. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles E. Porterfield; sons, Greg Porterfield of Minnesota and T.J. (Mary Jane) Porterfield of Nevada; grandsons, Sean, Ben, and their mother Jane Porterfield; granddaughter, Alexandra Porterfield; great-granddaughter, April; sister, Leona (Elva) Wolfe of Iowa; special friend, Shirley Suhr, and many nieces, nephews, and other friends. Family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. **(date change)** A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Sugar Creek Presbyterian Church, 4417 Bigger Rd., Kettering at 10:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Julia Wharff Piermont officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011 from 5:00-8:00PM at North Fair Community Center, 120 W. Shaw, Osceola, Iowa. Committal service will take place on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 10:00 AM in Murray Cemetery, Murray, Iowa. Please join the family for a reception to follow at Murray Methodist Church.
