Bettye S. Downey

age 85, of Kettering passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2004. Bettye was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. She was a Rosie the Riveter During WWII. Later she attended Lockyear Business College. Bettye was an avid swimmer at the South Community YMCA and played in two bridge clubs with a host of friends. Bettye also enjoyed travel to Hawaii, Mexico, Portugal, St. Croix, U.S.V.I. and Cuba where she honeymooned with her husband, Harold, whom she married on October 18, 1947. Bettye was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a devoted homemaker. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hyatt A. and Alta Mae (Phillips) Scraper; and sister, Sanna Scraper Borge. Bettye is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Harold Downey; daughter, Ann Downey (Robert) Hem of Minnetonka, MN; sons, H. Kenneth (Karen) Downey Jr. of Kettering and Wm. Downey of Columbus; grandchildren, Brian and Megan Downey of Kettering; nieces, Janet (James) Crowle, Sanna (Michael) Feirstein and Rikke Borge; nephews, Ronald (Nancy) Borge and VEBE (Paula) Borge; and numerous other fraternal nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Monday, December 27, 2004 from 1-2:00 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
