USAF Capt. (Retired), age 45, of Kettering, OH, passed away at his home after a long battle with cancer, Saturday, July 26, 2003, with relatives at his side. He was born March 7, 1958 in Akron, OH. Bruce was a graduate of Stow High School, Class of 1976. He received his Aeronautical Engineering Degree from the University of Arizona. Bruce retired from the U.S.A.F. as a Captain after enlisting in 1976. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking, golf and bowling. Bruce was an avid Browns, Indians, Arizona Wildcats, Ohio State Buckeyes and Lance Armstrong fan. He also was a boy scout leader in Kettering. Bruce was baptized and was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Kettering. Survived by his wife Cindy; daughter, Kimberly and her husband, Brent Kilburn of Dayton, OH; son, Kyle Vandersall of Kettering, OH; 2 granddaughters, Casandra and Kyla Kilburn; mother, Donna of Rockford, IL; father, Beryl of Tallmadge, OH; 2 brothers, Jeffrey and his wife Patty Vandersall of Dallas, TX and Tim Vandersall of Akron, OH; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Thursday, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 4865 Wilmington Pike, Kettering, OH, with Pastor Phillip Esala officiating. The family will greet friends from 4:00 – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial in David’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it would please Bruce to have donations made in his memory to Boundary Waters Wilderness Foundation, 401 N. Third St., Ste. 290, Minneapolis, MN 55401.
