CRAVER, Bruce Alan, age 76, of Centerville, passed away Monday, July 15, 2024. He was born November 15, 1947, in Rochester, IN, to the late James and Marietta (Kindig) Craver. After graduating from Northside High School in Ft. Wayne, IN, he went on to earn his undergraduate degree and doctoral degree in Physics from Purdue University. A passionate educator, Bruce then devoted himself to teaching physics at the University of Dayton for 38 years until his retirement in 2016.
When not teaching, Bruce enjoyed playing tennis, riding Ohio’s bike trails, reading mysteries, and taking a deep dive into Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. While living in West Carrolton in the 1980’s, Bruce coached and refereed youth soccer. He and his wife have enjoyed traveling in all 50 states and Canada. Among his most rewarding experiences were the summers spent in Leipzig, Germany, teaching Climatology to his UD students. Trips to other European countries often followed.
Bruce especially enjoyed visiting museums with his grandson, Carsten, and taking every opportunity to teach him about “cool” science.
Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Cheryl Craver; children, Erica (Larry) DeMik and Sean (Natalie) Craver; grandson, Carsten; brother, Larry Craver; and niece, Courtney Barnhill.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Bruce at a future date. Information will be shared with family and friends as plans are made. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Union of Concerned Scientists, Two Brattle Square, Suite 6, Cambridge MA 02138-3780, Union of Concerned Scientists (ucsusa.org) or a charity of your choice.
