COMPTON, Campbell Helm “Butch”, Jr., age 64, of Dayton, passed away on January 7, 2019. Butch was born to Campbell H. Compton, Sr. & Amy Ruth (Johns) on January 23, 1953 in Lafayette, LA.
Butch joined the Air Force at the age of 19, just missing the Vietnam era, but was later deployed during Desert Storm. He retired from the USAF in 1997 and became a stay-at-home father. He worked as a stock broker before taking advantage of the “Troops to Teachers” program and later taught math at Belmont High School for 7 years. Butch was also a salesman at Walker Toyota where he loved to visit with customers. He was a prankster, jokester, and the life-of-the-party. There was never a dull moment when Butch was around. He loved motorcycles, cars, and anything with wheels and motors. He lived to fish, hunt, and golf. Above all else he was a devoted father who put his children first in every way.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years who he met in the Air Force, Melinda Ann Poist; children, Jillian Taylor & Jeffrey Daniel Compton; siblings, Gary (Millie) Compton, Camille (Jim) Latta; nieces and nephews, Cara, Stephanie, Jennifer, Laura, Brad, Johnathan, Robert, and Christal; brother-in-law, Joseph “Bobby” Poist; sister-in-law, Patty (Stewart) Douglas.
