SCHAFER, Carl, age 90, of Dayton, OH, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016. He was born in Buffalo, New York on July 6, 1926.
He was a respected Navy Veteran, who served in World War II. After the war he met his wife of 67 years, Mildred, while attending Otterbein College.
Carl graduated with his bachelors degree 1949. He worked in retailing for Rike's and Elder Beerman. Carl was an active member and strong volunteer at Normandy United Methodist Church. He devoted his time volunteering with Kiwanas, St. Paul's UMC Food for Needy Program and Meals on Wheels.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Lola Schafer; and sister, Ann Verbeist.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Schafer; his two children, Cathy (Raymond) Maurer; and David (Katie) Schafer; and grandchildren; Ben, Karly, Jared, and Emily.
A memorial service will be held at 10am on Saturday, November 19, 1026, at Normandy United Methodist Church, 450 W Alex Bell Rd, Dayton, OH.
