CAMBRIA, Carmen Michael “Chuck”, age 85 of Dayton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on February 5, 2025. He was the first born son of an immigrant father from Falcone, Sicily, and mother from Reading, Pennsylvania. 

His father passed away while serving our country in World War II in Italy in 1946. He was then raised by his uncle, Carmelo Cambria. He grew up in Reading, PA and graduated from Saint Peter’s Reading Catholic High School. He received his B.S. from the University of Dayton in Education in 1961 and his Master’s Degree in Psychology from U.D. in 1971. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He met his beloved wife, Kathy in Dayton, they were married in 1964 and lived in Dayton together until her passing in 2007 after 43 years of marriage. He started his career of 44 years in education at Beavercreek High School, then became a Director of Pupil Personnel for the Vandalia Butler school district. He was a part-time faculty member at the University of Dayton from 1973 to 1986 in teacher education. He was an administrator for Springfield City Schools for many years, then returned to teaching biology for the remainder of his career. In 1997, he was a recipient of the Excellence In Teaching Award. He was a gifted chef who loved cooking for his family. His many other passions include gardening, playing tennis and dancing. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Dayton Flyers, Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Cincinnati Bengals. 

Preceded in death by his parents Francesco (Frank Cambria), Giovannina Boncardo (Jennie Boncoddo) and Carmelo (Charlie Cambria), his wife, Kathleen Gibbs Cambria, his granddaughter, Kathleen M. Woodie (Katie), his brother Frank Cambria and his two golden retrievers Nick and Sam. He is survived by his children, daughter Michelle Monhollen (Butch), daughter Lisa Schreck (Stephen) and their children Conor Woodie, Aidan and Quinn, son Jason Cambria (Hollie) and their children, Avery, Rylee, Brogan and Eian. His son-in-law, Randall Woodie, his great-granddaughter Scarlett K. Woodie and her mother, Hailie Carone. Chuck is also survived by his four brothers, Michael (Linda), Rocco (Janet), Joe (Veronica), James (Dawn), and a sister Sandra (Steve) Korejwo. Chuck has many loved nieces and nephews in Reading, Pennsylvania and in Dayton, Ohio, too many to mention. Chuck also leaves behind many dear close friends. 

The family would like to extend special thanks and love to the staff at The Carlyle House, in Kettering, he cared for all of you very much and for the wonderful care given by Hospice of Dayton, there are not enough words of praise for this organization.

 Family will greet friends Thursday, February 13 from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 14 at 11:00am at Holy Angels Church, 1322 Brown St., Dayton, OH 45409. Chuck will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Chuck’s name to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420.
