SIEBER, Carolyn age 82, of Washington Township, passed away December 14, 2009. Born November 7, 1927 in Corvallis, Oregon, to parents Ralph O and Eleanor Coleman. Carolyn attended Stephens College and held degrees from Oregon State University and University of Dayton. At Oregon State she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. After graduation she moved to San Francisco and spent the next 6 years in the Bay Area of which she had only fond memories. It was there she met and married her husband Ralph James Sieber. Then for ten years, Carolyn and Jim resided in Saigon, S. Vietnam, Singapore and Bangkok, Thailand. In those places they encountered the culture shock of living with servants, erratic electricity, and new languages, often without telephone, hot running water, air conditioning or television. During this time there were two sons born, Jay & Dirk, some unusual teaching experiences, exotic travel and a sense of living in a time warp. In 1966, Carolyn and Jim settled in Dayton, and after moving family and self seven times in ten years, found a home to live in for the next 32. In 1989, Carolyn retired after teaching 21 years in West Carrollton schools (7th grade English language arts). Her parting words were "twenty one years is enough". After that, with leisure time available, travel, especially by ship, became of great interest and only the variables of time, energy and finances prevented her from visiting all five oceans and the seven seas. She practiced gardening as a hobby for 35 years and took up serious duplicate bridge after 1992, playing in local games, tournaments and on travels, attaining the rank of Bronze Life Master. She has often expressed gratitude for the friends and acquaintances she met at the table. And now wants to say that – "yes, you can have the last word". She is survived by her brother Ralph O Coleman, and sons Dirk and Jay. Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 3:00PM at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N Main St., Centerville with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Pike, Dayton OH 45420 or Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Miami Valley, 8690 Yankee Street, Dayton Ohio 45458.
