Catherine Elinor Chakrian-Pielage

April 9, 1916 — May 12, 2014

Chakrian-Pielage, Catherine, age 98, formerly of Kettering and Cape Coral, Florida passed away on May 12, 2014. She was married to George N. Chakrian who was well known in the restaurant industry, including ownership of the Parkmoor Drive-In and Lum's. After being widowed in 1971, Catherine started the Widow and Widower Fellowship in Dayton, which flourished with 200 new marriages over the next 20 years. There she met her second husband, Norbert Pielage. They were married at St. Albert the Great Church and in 1977 moved to sunny Cape Coral, Florida. Catherine was always civic minded. She was involved in starting the City of Kettering as the Secretary of the Kettering Citizen Committee. She helped start the Kettering Garden Club in the 1950's she also had a girl scout troop at St. Albert the Great School. In Cape Coral, Florida, she helped start 9 clubs and the first Cape Coral library. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the German American Club, and a Grandmother's Club. During WWII, she helped create the Civil Defense program in Toledo, Ohio. While in Toledo, she also worked with many attorneys and was secretary for Mayor Michael DiSalle who later became Governor of Ohio. While in her 70's and 80's, she enjoyed hula dancing, modeling clothes, taking cruises, writing children stories, and enjoying her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Wicklund and husband Lloyd "Skip" Wicklund who owned Contemporary Galleries of Centerville; daughter Carol Chakrian Warner and husband Wynn Warner owner of Warner Architectural Assoc.; 5 grandsons, Allen, Kent, and Brett Wicklund and Nathan and wife Katie and Ryan Warner; 7 great grandchildren, Emily, Taylor, and Jacob Warner, and Tia, Lainey, Bryant, and Ashley Wicklund; nephew Ed Tutelian and wife Astrig; niece Anne Tutelian, wife of the late Mirian Tutelian and their daughters Linda Tutelian and Carmen Saro and husband Paul; great niece Megan Saro; the Harry Dederian family, and the many families of her other relatives Boddy, Feist, Brown, Cheshire, Alba, and Beall. The family will receive friends at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering, from 6-8 pm, Wednesday, May 14, with funeral service at 10:00 am on Thursday, May 15 at Routsong and burial at Calvary Cemetery. Contributions, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Steve and Jan Jonas Transfer Scholarship Fund at the Sinclair Community College Foundation (444 West Third Street, Dayton, OH 45402).
