age 87, of Dayton, passed away, Thursday, April 3, 2003 in Sarasota Fl. where she had made many good snowbird friends. Kay received her R.N. in Dubuque, IA. worked as a nurse during the war for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. In Dayton she graduated from the University of Dayton School of Nursing and was privately employed as a surgical nurse for Dr. Kent Finley Sr., Dr. Jim Shaffer and Dr. Dayton Clark. Kay was a member of St. Albert the Great Church, President of Tri-Arts Club, Vice-President & Program Director for Dayton Society of Painters, a member of Western Ohio Watercolor Society and Carnell Circle of the Dayton Art Institute. Kay had a love of birds and they were a frequent subject of her art. She received many awards for her outstanding monotypes. Kay & David Smith shared a love of art together and had many joint exhibits together. Survived by her husband of 40 years, David Smith; 2 sisters, Edythe Diederich of IA and Marion Hecky of MN; several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, April 10, at St. Albert the Great Church, 3033 Far Hills Ave. Kettering with Father Jim Manning officiating. Burial in Calvary cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, at the Routsong Funeral Home, 6 Oakwood Ave., Oakwood. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, St. Albert the Great Church Memorial Fund, 3033 Far Hills Ave., Kettering, OH 45429.
