HOPE, Catherine Marie (Wenger), died on Wednesday, April 28, 2004, at the Elm Creek Nursing Center in West Carrollton. Catherine (Kaye) was born in Dayton, OH, the younger of two children, on April 10, 1921, to Robert and Helen (Wetzel) Wenger. She graduated in 1939 from Roosevelt High School, was a member of the Centerville United Methodist Church, Past Worthy Matron of Belmont Chapter #555 OES, and secretary of Far Hills OES for ten years. Catherine worked for the Reynolds & Reynolds Company at the time of her retirement, was a charter member and active for 61 years in the Phi Siena Sorority formed at Sheffield during WWII. She was an active member of the Centerville Mothers Club in her younger years, and the Hithergreen Seniors in later years. Catherine served on the advisory board for the Hope Assembly of the International Rainbow for Girls in Centerville and was a member of the DeMolay Mother’s Club, both youth organizations sponsored by the Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. She loved to sew and made many clothes for her family as they were growing up. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Wenger, brother and sister-in-law, Robert C. and Eleanor Wenger, daughter, Brenda Marie Hope-Cheatum and infant granddaughter, Hope Elizabeth Gilley. Catherine is survived by her loving husband, John Willard Hope, whom she married on December 9, 1944. Also surviving are her daughter, (with whom she resided in Kettering), Ellen (Bob) Gilley; son, Barry (Lois) Hope of El Paso, Texas; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brother–in-law, Ward (Edith) Hope of Centreville, MI (formerly of Brookville, OH); brother-in-law, Jack (Joy) Bucher of Hamburg, NY; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and many caring and loving friends. The family would like to thank everyone at Lincoln Park Manor, Elm Creek Nursing Center, Kettering Hospital, Sycamore Hospital and a special thank you to Hospice of Dayton for the wonderful care and support they gave Catherine and her family over the past 9 months. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., in Kettering. Burial at Woodland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-5:00 PM at the funeral home. Eastern Star Services will be held at 4:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420 or Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45229-3095.
