WHISTLER, Charles Clayton, Jr., age 90, of Dayton, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2014. He was born September 18, 1923 in Dayton to the late Charles and Mabel Whistler. After graduating from Purdue University in mechanical engineering, Charles had a very successful career with General Motors, then traveled the world representing Frigidaire International. Like his father, his family and church were his highest priorities, as was his passion for the family's tradition of summer retreats now held at their cottage in Canada. Charles is preceded in death by his sisters, Marguerite Glasgow and Martha Perkins, and by Hazel Whistler, his wife of 63 years. He is survived by his sister, Susanne (Bob) Wertz; his children, Charles (Barbara) Whistler, III and Alice Holmes; grandchildren, Matt (Jennifer) Holmes, Clayton (Starla) Holmes, Charles Whistler IV, Carolyn (Nathan) Steiner, and Laurie Whistler; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Mason Holmes, Brodie and Remi Albright, and twins Alexander and Blake Steiner. The family would like to especially thank nephews Ron Gabbard and Andy and Charlie Wertz, as well as the entire Wertz family, for all their care and attention to Charles in recent years. Family will greet friends from 10am-12pm on Saturday, April 12th, 2014 at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville with a service to follow at 12pm. Burial will be in David's Cemetery.
