HALL, Charles D., age 81, of Dayton, died at home on Monday, December 8, 2003. Charles was a lifelong resident of Dayton, Ohio. A veteran of WWII, Charles served as a B-17 pilot. His education included degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Denison University. He was active in many organizations including President of the Easter Seal Society, Dayton Y.M.C.A. and the Dayton Civitan Club. He was also a member of Beta Theta Pi, Omicron Delta Kappa, Center Star Lodge #11, Scottish Rite and Antioch Temple Shrine, The 49ers, Smizer Family, Comus Club, American College of Life Underwriters, American Legion Post #598, and Ducks Unlimited. Charles was also a long time communicant of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Stanley Hall; his former wife, Betty Maher; parents and brother, James; Charles is survived by two sons, Charles S. (Rita) of Hagerstown, IN; and Timothy S. of Columbus, OH; and daughter, Sarah K. (Russell) Garrod of Columbus, OH; sister-in-law, Betty C. Hall of Sun City, AZ; five stepchildren, Phil Ward of NM, Diane Jones and Christopher Ward of IL, and Andrew and Tim Ward of Dayton, OH. He was also blessed with five grandchildren; Charles R., James, and Rachel Hall, and Russell A. Jr. and Megan E. Garrod; and a great grandchild. Charles lived well, loved much, laughed often, loved stories, appreciated the Earth’s beauty, and was a conservationist and enjoyed hunting and wildlife. Charles wanted to share some thoughts on how to live life to the fullest, he writes, “Visit a friend, take a meal to an elderly neighbor, plant a garden, spend more time with your family, hug a child, do something positive in His name.” There will be a service celebrating His resurrection held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 33 W. Dixon Ave., Oakwood, at 10:00 AM. Family will greet friends following the service in the St. Paul’s Cloisters.
