Charles H. Waterman Jr.

WATERMAN, Charles H., Jr., age 80 of Dayton, died, Sunday, May 5, 2002 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born July 27, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY to Alma Knight Waterman and Charles H. Waterman, Sr. Charles received his BS and MBA at New York University. He served in the US Army and US Air Corp as Captain, with five years active duty, including two years combat duty with the 73rd Bomb Wing on Saipan. Charles volunteered for 27 years in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, teaching Boating Safety with the last two years as Commodore for the Eastern Division of the 2nd USCG Auxiliary District. He was a resident of Kettering since 1956, and a charter member of St. Charles Borromeo Church. He served 3 years as a member on the St. Charles Parish Council. Charles was active in Kettering City government and was awarded Volunteer Citizen of the Year in 1984, serving also on the City of Kettering Planning Commission as Vice Chairman. Charles retired from Top Value Enterprises as Vice President of Advertising and Sales Promotion. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Grayce O'Mealia Waterman, in January 1986. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 15 years (184 months), Mary A. Waterman; loving father of daughter, Susan Onaitis and husband, Kenneth; son, Charles H. Waterman III and wife, Anna; and daughters, Mary and Grayce. Loving step-father of Michael R. Jones; Mary Anne Miller, and husband, Richard; Cathleen M. Downs and husband, Frank Jr; Pat and Dennis Jones. Thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, at 10:30 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church, with Monsignor Breslin officiating. Family will greet friends Wednesday evening, from 6-8:00 PM, at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
