Charles James Newton

January 9, 1946 — October 29, 2002

NEWTON, Charles J., age 56 of Oakwood, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2002. He was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church and an avid patron of the Dayton Philharmonic. Charles graduated Suma Cum Laude from the University of Dayton in 1979 with a BA in communications. Until his retirement in 2000 he worked in the Visual Communications Division at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Charles was a veteran of the US Army. He served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1969. Preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Kathleen Newton, sister, Betty and her husband, C.D. Syner, sister, Judy Newton and brother, Doug Newton. Survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Oliver and Ericka Newton; grandson, Roland; ex-wife, Jan Franklin Rengan; sister, Jean Stanford; brother and sister-in-law Danny and Arlene Newton; niece, Kim and husband, Andy Arrogancia, and nephew, Roger Syner. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 1, 2002 at 5:00 PM at Oakwood United Methodist Church, with Pastor Doug Westfall officiating. If desired, contributions may be made in Charles memory to the Dayton Philharmonic, 125 E. First St., Dayton, OH 45402. Family may receive condolences via the web site at www.routsong.com.
