Charlotte Corrine Leonard

LEONARD, Charlotte C., age 88 of Kettering, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Kettering Medical Center. Preceded in death by parents Harry and Ruth Baker Leonard; sister Georgia E. Leonard; and brothers Everett B. and J. Richard Leonard. She is survived by sister-in-law Mary Lou Leonard; nephew David (Tonya) Leonard; and great nephew Noah. Charlotte was born on March 16, 1922 in Delaware, Ohio. She graduated from Brown Township High School and received her undergraduate degree from Heidelberg College and a Masters Degree from Case Western University. Charlotte began her career in 1950 at the Dayton and Montgomery County Public Library as Head of the Bookmobile Department and became Coordinator of Children's Services, a position she held for over 20 years until her retirement in 1984. She served as President of the Ohio Library Association, was a member of the American Library Association, Ohio Educational Library Media Association and Soroptimist International. Charlotte was honored by the Ohio Library Council as the 1983 Hall of Fame Librarian. She was President of The College Women's Club of Dayton and wrote its history celebrating 100 years. Charlotte was a published author of children's books and wrote a weekly column for the Dayton Daily News for a number of years. She conducted many in-service workshops and continued to be active following retirement. She was a member of Fairhaven Church. Charlotte will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Her wonderful impact on so many lives, commitment to the community and dedicated leadership was an inspiration to so many. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 11:00AM at Green Mound Cemetery, 5456 SR 521, Kilbourne Ohio. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.routsong.com.
