ROUSH, Chester A. "Chet" Celebration of Life Service. Sunday, April 27, 2014, 3:00 PM. Fairmont High School Auditorium, 3301 Shroyer Road, Kettering, OH 45429. A public "celebration of life" service will be held for Chet Roush on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. (doors open at 2:15 p.m.) at the Kettering Fairmont High School Auditorium. Chet Roush's family invites you to join them in celebrating all those things that mattered most to him - his family, his faith, his work, athletics, music, children of all ages. His impact in his community and Ohio was long and profound, and this Sunday afternoon service will celebrate his life of work and service. Chester A. "Chet" Roush, age 95, of Kettering, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2013. Chet was born to the late John A. and Laura Maye (Short) Roush on July 23, 1918 in Winchester, OH. He and his five sisters lost their father in 1926, but were raised by their loving, courageous mother. A graduate of Winchester High School, Alfred E. Holbrook College, and University of Wisconsin (Madison), Chet's life work and service began in 1940 and was focused on young people as a successful public school teacher, coach, superintendent, and later in life, a college professor and Ohio State Board of Education member and president. He was the recipient of numerous honors and awards at the local, state, and national level, but he never "forgot where he came from." Serving as a Captain in the Army Air Corps during World War II, Chet was active in a variety of professional and community services organizations, to include having been a charter member of the Kettering Rotary, member of the Kettering YMCA Board, President of the Ohio Association of School Superintendents, a member and teacher at Christ United Methodist Church, and author of two books, The History of Alfred Holbrook College, 1980 and The History of Winchester Ohio school District, 1999. The love he and Dottie had for family, travel, and young people were an inspiration to many. The past eight years had been less adventurous for them, but their affection for family and people of all stations never waned. Preceded in death by parents and oldest daughter Sally Anne Brown. Chet is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dottie Satterfield Roush; children, Jean Elizabeth (John) Wolfe of Kettering, OH and John Allen (Susie Miller) Roush of Danville, KY; son-in-law, Jim Brown; four grandchildren, Luke Miller (Brooke Olsen) Roush, Rebecca Anne (Brad) Probasco, Elizabeth (Peter) Wolfe-Eberly and Mark Miller (Natalie Crable) Roush; eight great-grandchildren, Sam, Payton, Molly, Jack, Annie, Cate, Tristan, Ben, and a ninth to be welcomed in May, 2014. Private family services were held on October 20, 2013.
