Clara Lane Clark

February 2, 1924 — November 1, 2012

Clara Lane Clark, 88 of Washington Township passed away peacefully on November 1, 2012. She was born February 2, 1924 in Washington DC to the late Russell C. and Sarah Simrall Lane. She graduated from Oakwood High School and attended the University of Kentucky and the Dayton Art Institute. As an Art Illustrator during WWII she worked at the Personal Equipment Laboratory at Wright Field and continued her artistic endeavors at Rikes Department Store as a Display Decorator. Married to William Bradbury Clark in June of 1948, she was a devoted mother to their four children and used her Art training and talents to design and chair Christmas Trees Around the World at John Hole School and The Centerville Bi-Centennial Colonial Craft Show. For many years Clara provided clever and entertaining table decorations for The Fairmonters dinners at her church, Fairmont Presbyterian Church in Kettering. She was an active member of the Centerville and Oakwood Historical Societies. Using her talents for design and marketing, Clara started her own enterprise creating a line of school Drill Team and Band Dolls, producing more than 1500 dolls at over 100 schools. She was known for her Shaker and Clothespin Dolls that were displayed and sold at Kettering Shaker Festivals. Cherished wife and travel companion of William Bradbury Clark, loving Mother and Friend of Molly & Tad Zimmerman of Kettering, Scott & Kendra Clark of Newport, KY, Tom Clark Of Greenwich, CT and the late Steve Clark. Also survived by six Grandchildren, Adam Clark of Cincinnati, Courtney (Chris) Clark Rankin of Southgate, KY, Haley and Whitney Clark of New York City and Carrie and Meredith Clark of Greenwich, CT. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 on Monday November 5th with a reception following from 12-1:30 at Fairmont Presbyterian Church, 3705 Far Hills Ave. with Rev. Denise Weaver officiating. Private internment at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation. Clara's Humor and Kindness will be missed by family and many long term and devoted friends.
