HOBBS, Daniel J., age 90, of Dayton died on January 5, 2007, at Elmcroft Assisted Living. Mr. Hobbs was born in Middletown, Ohio, lived in Dayton, Ohio for over fifty years and in Hamilton, Ohio for 27 years. Mr. Hobbs attended Chaminade High School and the University of Dayton; he graduated “summa cum laude” as President and Valedictorian of his class, in 1938 and was in “Who’s Who in American Colleges.” He did post-graduate work at Purdue University and Harvard University. As an infantry officer for five years in World War II, he left the service with the rank of Major. He served overseas a total of three and one half years in both the Pacific and European Theater of Operations. He was awarded the Bronze Star at the Second Rhine Crossing. On return from the infantry, he joined Huffy Manufacturing Co. in Dayton, as Director of Industrial Relations. He was later employed for twenty-seven years by Mosler Safe Co., Hamilton, Ohio, a division of American Standard, NYC. He retired in 1981 as Senior Vice President of Marketing. He was the recipient of the “Industrial Man of the Year” while at Mosler and served as President of the United Way for four years. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years , Elizabeth M. Hobbs; children, Daniel G. (Irma) Hobbs, Sharon A. Hobbs, Jack C. (Bonnie) Hobbs and Joan F. (Patrick) Smith; 6 grandchildren, Madeline, Wylie, Daniel J., Jennifer, Barbara and Daniel R. Hobbs; 2 step-grandchildren, Audra and Anna Smith. Family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Friday, January 12, 2006 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 10:00 AM at St. Albert the Great Church, 3033 Far Hills Ave., Kettering with Father Gary Aultz officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 40 S. Perry St., Ste. 120, Dayton, OH 45402; Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420; or American Heart Association, P. O. Box 182039, Dept 013, Columbus, OH 43218-2039.
