David "Dick" Darrah

With much sadness we announce that David “Dick” Darrah of Kettering passed away on August 3rd, 2024, at the age of 92. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Betty, son Douglas, daughter Rhonda and brother Ray. He is survived by four children — David, Michael, Mark and Rebecca — 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many friends and extended family who will miss him dearly. 

Born in Centerville, Iowa, Dick graduated from Knoxville High School in 1950 and the University of Iowa in 1954 with a B.S. in Economics. After graduation, he was commissioned in the US Air Force and served as a Navigator at the Edwards Air Force Base Flight Test Division. He described his time in the Air Force and adventures in California as some of the best years of his life. Following his military service, he had a successful career in technology sales and strategic marketing at Frieden, SCM, NCR, Lucent & AT&T, which he thoroughly enjoyed. 

Dick was an incredibly curious man who never stopped learning. He refused to slow down, and was always active and working on a project of some kind. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife and his beagle, investing in the stock market, gardening, keeping in touch with friends and family, taking care of his lawn and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. 

Dick will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. 

A service to honor Dick will be held at a later date.
