David H. Walther

WALTHER, David Hiser passed away March 22, 2008 at Walnut Creek Nursing Center after a lengthy illness. David was born October 25, 1921 and was the seventh child born to Katie and George Walther, founder of Dayton Walther Corporation (formerly Dayton Steel Foundry) of Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Fairmont High School, attended the University of Colorado and joined the U.S. Air Corp in 1943. As 2nd Lt., David pursued his dream of being a "fighter-pilot" by flying B24's. In early 1944, he was assigned to a fighter pilot school near Pensacola, FL. and graduated to America's top fighter, the P47. After three years of service, David returned to Dayton to work at his father's business (Dayton Steel Foundry) where he was involved with foundry, coreroom and molding. His ambitions were elsewhere, i.e. sales of Dayton Steel products. David progressed from Sales representative to Assistant Sales Manager and finally Assistant to V.P. of Sales in 1963. He retired in 1965, but always stayed in touch with Dayton Walther Corp. David was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards with his many golf buddies. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Elizabeth and Gretchen; and brothers, George, John, James, Jacob and Richard. Survived by his sister, Mary Jane Donnelly of Nokomis, FL.; brothers, Daniel Walther of Naples FL., Frederick Walther of Dayton and William Dean Walther of Dayton and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008 at Routsong Funeral Home 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering at 10:00a.m. Burial in David's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 3797 Summit Glen Rd # G100, Dayton, OH 45449 or to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Pike, Dayton, Ohio 45420 in memory of David H.
