September 30, 1937 — October 11, 2024

Dayton

With great sadness, we announce the death of David Lester Stolle (87) Friday October 11, 2024 at Hospice of Dayton.

David is survived by his cherished and loving partner of 35 years Vanessa Ann Parks, his son; David Michael Stolle (Tracie Fang), the mother of his two sons; Judith Ann Stolle and daughter in law; Cindy Shawler Stolle(Doug). He was preceded in death by his son; Mark Douglas ( Doug) Stolle, parents; Lester and Leah Stolle, his brothers; Frank Gerald (Jerry) and Larry Michael (Mike) Stolle, his sister; Judith Stolle ( Judy) Barber and nephew Bill Scott (Scotty)Barber.

David graduated Oakwood High School, class of 1955. He continued his education at the Ohio State University, graduating class of 1959 with a business degree in accounting. Dave was a proud member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.

Dave returned to Dayton and joined his father in the family business, Yoder Diecasting Corporation. Jerry, Mike and Doug all eventually followed him in the business. Dave enjoyed being surrounded by such a humorous group. The offices at 727 Kiser Street were filled with laughter and cigarette smoke, back in the day. There was a tradition of daily lunches; first Suttmiller’s then Murray’s Place. To join the Stolle’s at lunch was enlightening and entertaining. Plenty of jokes and stories were shared along with opinions on Ohio State Football, UD Basketball, the Cincinnati Bengals and Reds. The business was sold in 2010 allowing Dave to retire after 65 years of dedicated service to his family.

Dave was an active father, involved in every aspect his son’s lives. When young he was the Cub Scout Master ,baseball coach and often the loudest voice disagreeing with referees or cheering his sons in a game or match. As adults they played golf and tennis together often.

Dave loved cards. This included blackjack, gin rummy, euchre, pitch and high low jack in the hole. He was an excellent player and shared his love of card games with his boys. They always played for something and the stakes could become quite high, even amongst the family.

Dave started a second life with Vanessa in 1990. Together they enjoyed many wonderful memories. They were known for the events they hosted at the family farm. Dave organized camp outs, trap shoots, fishing, fish fries, frog gigging, garden planting, pig roasts and football watch parties. Vanessa always had something delicious cooking on the stove.

Dave also loved to host groups of friends at his cottage in Michigan for golf outings and fishing. He invariably had a “ camp ham”. The stories from those trips are repeated often among the younger generation. Dave’s friend Tom Boone was often a central character in the AuSable Escapades.

Dave loved thoroughbred horse racing. He initiated the boys early to parimutuel wagering allowing them to bet quarters and calculating the payoffs. Vanessa joined him traveling to watch the horses race, workout or visit the stables. Over the course of 50 years Dave owned and raced many horses. He was passionate about the care of his horses ensuring their needs were met. Dave’s racing silks, by design ,were Bengals orange with black stripes.

Dave and Vanessa bought a place on Marco Island, FL in 1992 spending time golfing and fishing. They enjoyed a local spot Stan’s Idle Hour introducing many friends from Dayton to the famous Buzzard Punch, Stan’s Sunday parties and the annual Mullet Festival.

Sadly we have to say goodbye to a wonderful man. We will miss Dave, especially his leadership, support and kindness. Services will be held on Friday, October 18 at Routsong Funeral Home 2100 East Stroop Rd., Kettering, OH 45429. Visitation from 10 AM to 12 PM, services at 12 PM. Burial to follow at Davids Cemetery.
