Denise Marie Powell

POWELL, Denise Marie, age 70, of Kettering, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024. 

Denise was born June 11, 1953 to the late Wise and Esther (Vititoe) Alsept. A graduate of Stebbins High School, she dedicated her life to making her home a warm and welcoming place for her family. Denise was a fiercely independent woman. Strong in her faith, she was very active in various churches in her community. Denise found peace in gardening and birdwatching and loved her pet parakeets. She was an avid reader and a life-long learner. Denise had a warm smile and a positive outlook, and a social disposition that attracted many friends. 

Denise began a brief stint as an insurance agent in the 90’s, going door to door. Little did she know she would knock on the door of Gus Powell. They got married and began their life as a blended family. After Gus’s passing in 2007, Denise became active in various widow’s groups. 

Denise was an excellent seamstress and had a talent for crafting and creating beautiful things out of everyday objects. She left her mark on this world and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. 

Along with her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Gary Lee Vest; sisters, Daphnie and Delilah; and brother, Robby. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Kevin (Kim), daughter, Cheryl (Derrick), and step-son, George (Susan); grandchildren, Holly, Kevin, Nikki, Haley, Benjamin, Ivan, Miranda, Shirley, and Sophia; great-grandson, Matthew, and numerous other siblings and family members. 

Family will greet friends Saturday, March 9 from 11:00am-12:00pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville, with Funeral Services beginning at 12:00pm. Denise will be laid to rest in Beavertown Cemetery.
