NEU, Denny M., age 55, of Dayton, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 17, 2006 at his home. He was a retired Dayton Firefighter who served honorably for 15 years in the city where he was a lifelong resident. Prior to becoming disabled with muscular dystrophy in May of 1991, Denny was an avid runner who completed the 1989 New York City Marathon. He was also an active resident of the Oregon District and is considered a modern day pioneer of the historic neighborhood where he purchased and restored his home in 1974. He was currently serving as an elected trustee of the Oregon Historic District Society. Preceding Denny in death in 1993 was his father, Robert E. Neu. He is survived by his mother, Lucille J. (Batter) Neu of Centerville; his devoted wife of 19 years, Janet S. Monroe-Neu; 2 sisters, Susan Murley of Kentucky, Diane and husband John Harvey of Springboro. Ten brothers also survive: Bob and Marie Neu of Tipp City; Tom of Arizona; Jerry of Dayton; Jim and Jill of New Mexico; Rick and Laura Neu of Dayton; Ted and Nick Neu both of Dayton; Steve of Colorado; Chris and Debbie of Waynesville; Scott and Jill of Lebanon; a sister-in-law, Helen Neu of Dayton as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Additionally, Denny leaves behind and will be greatly missed by a community of loving neighbors and friends in the Oregon Historic District. Visitation will be held at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. at Woodman Dr. in Kettering on Thursday, June 22nd from 4 to 8 PM. The funeral service will take place at 1 PM Friday at the funeral home with Dr. Philip Lilly officiating. The family will also receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial is at Calvary Cemetery.
