Donald Lavon Mccormick

McCormick, Donald Lavon, "Don", 89, of Centerville, Ohio, passed away January 18, 2012. Don was born in Hicksville, Ohio on December 27, 1923. After graduating from Tiffin High School, Don worked in electronics repair until joining the Army, where he received further training in electrical engineering. After his tour of duty was completed he attended University of Michigan, graduating with a degree in electrical engineering. A project with the government brought him to Dayton and led to a civil service career at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Electronics was not just a job for Don, as he assembled a workshop in his basement, where he worked on many projects. The instructions for one of his projects were published in the magazine "Popular Electronics". Don was also a life-long musician. He played sax and clarinet in several swing bands in the Dayton area over the years, and played with the Hauer Swing band until four years before his death. Don was preceded in death by his brother, Max, and sisters Evelyn and Leta. He is survived by his daughter Jane and son-in-law Jeff; daughter Kate; sister-in-law Justine; niece Carol, and nephews Greg, Chris, Mark and Kent. As Don was an unassuming man, he did not wish to have a funeral or memorial service. The family is very grateful to Scott and Brenda Geiger and Bill Sneiberger for their help and friendship during Don's last years. Special thanks to the staff of St. Leonard's for their good care and kindness. The family also wishes to thank the staff of Grand Court and Heartland of Kettering for all of their assistance and patience with his sister, Evelyn.
