Doris Jean Alexander (Daum), age 92, of Kettering, OH died peacefully on November 30, 2023, at Hospice of Dayton. She lived her life fully amid the blessings of a large and loving family and many friends. Doris is survived by her children Karen (Michael) Kairys, Gary (Cris) King, Arlene (Brent Meyer) King, Julie (Tim) Korosei, Brian (Sharon) King; grandchildren Jordan, Eliot, Anson, Mollie, Dillon, Emily, Kayla, Callie, Logan, and Raina; great-grandchildren Devon, Rory, Silas, Eden, Willa, and Olivia; stepsons David (Helen) Alexander and Douglas (Jill) Alexander and their families; and many other relatives and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years Edward Alexander, her parents, her brothers Ronald (Buzz) Daum, Jr. and David Daum, the father of her children Carl D. King, Jr., and her grandson Austin Korosei.
Doris was born on June 13, 1931, in Dayton, Ohio to Ronald and Edith (Jonischus) Daum. She graduated from Xenia Central High School in 1949 and later earned her elementary education degree from Wright State University. She worked at Daum and Detty in Xenia, OH and taught at Germantown Elementary School for 11 years. She was a longtime member of Greenmont-Oak Park Community Church.
Doris enjoyed traveling, ballroom dancing, and clogging with her husband Ed and spending time with her family. Doris was involved with various Dayton art groups. She was a talented seamstress and artist, painting and creating mixed media collage throughout her life. Doris wrote in her journal faithfully and kept in touch with her loved ones through frequent emails, texts, and shared photos. Words can only begin to capture her elegance and grace; she will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held Saturday February 17, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Greenmont-Oak Park Community Church with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greenmont-Oak Park Community Church, 1921 Woodman Dr, Kettering, OH 45420, the Kettering Backpack Program, or Hospice of Dayton.
