Dorothy J. Peterson

PETERSON, Dorothy J., age 94, of Kettering, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021. Dorothy was born February 20, 1927 to Edward and Theresa (Braun) Schad. A graduate of Oakwood High School in 1945, she attended the Dayton Art Institute to pursue her dream of becoming an artist. After her schooling, Dorothy worked at the Miamisburg Art Gallery, both as an artist and teacher, instilling her love of art in those she taught. She had a love of travelling, enjoying the journey that came along with visiting someplace new. Dorothy lived life to the fullest, whether that meant meeting new and interesting people, appreciating a good book, or spending time with animals. A member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, her strong faith in God guided her throughout her life.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Peterson; sister, Martha E. Schad; brother, Edward Schad; and Paul E. Rice.

A visitation will be held Thursday, July 22 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 23 at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 272 Bainbridge St., Dayton. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Presidential Banquet Center following the burial at Calvary Cemetery from 1:00pm-3:00pm at 4572 Presidential Way, Kettering, OH 45429 in Kohler Hall Building 2. Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to The Humane Society of Greater Dayton, 1661 Nicholas Rd., Dayton, OH 45417, or to the Miamisburg Art Gallery, 16 N. Main St., Miamisburg, OH 45342.
