Dorothy Jo Jefferson

JEFFERSON, Dorothy Jo, age 94, of Dayton, OH, passed away on Thursday, December 10, 2015. Dorothy was born to the late Carroll and Marian (nee Walker) Mercer on November 3, 1921 in Broken Arrow, OK. She graduated from Coweta High School and attended Oklahoma A&M. Dorothy retired as a secretary to the Superintendent of the San Angelo Independent School District. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in San Angelo, TX. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Barney L. Jefferson, Sr.; sister, Hope Young and brother, Bud Mercer. She is survived by her son, Barney (Patsy Sanders) Jefferson, Jr. of San Angelo, TX; daughter, Carol Barnhill of Richmond, VA and Linda Hope Suter Healy of Kettering, OH; 9 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jimmy (Janelle) Mercer and sister, Ann Morris. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Ohio's Hospice (Hospice of Dayton) for all the compassionate care they gave to Dorothy. Donations may be given in lieu of flowers to Ohio's Hospice (Hospice of Dayton), 324 Wilmington Ave. Dayton, OH 45420. A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering, OH. Family will greet friends following the service until 5:00pm.
