Dorothy Margaret Crampton

CRAMPTON, Dorothy Margaret 88, passed away on May 13, 2006 in Dayton. Dorothy lived most of her life in Chesterton, Indiana. Her final three years were spent with her family in Dayton, Ohio. Dorothy was born in Detroit, Michigan, March 4, 1918. She is preceded in death by her husband, Myrick B. Crampton, past Indiana State policeman and Porter County Sheriff and Clerk of Courts. She is survived by her sister, Martha Gavagan, of Chesterton, brother-in-law, Doine (Donna) Thrush of Casa Grande, AZ; daughters, Kay (Carl) Wick of Centerville, OH, Barbara Crampton (Bob Long) of Lake Forest, CA; son, Raymond (Diane) Crampton of Roanoke, VA; 7 grandchildren, Myrick (Jan) Crampton of Charleston, SC, William (Amanda) Goldsworthy of Huber Heights, OH Kathryn (Jim) Chandler of Alpharetta, GA, Raymond (Denise) Crampton of Tucson, AZ, Eric (Debbie) Crampton of Seattle, WA, Susie (Ken) Velten of Colorado Springs, CO and Karen (Lee) Wiegand of Centerville, OH; 16 great-grandchildren, Matt, Chris, Jeff, Tim, and Jacki Chandler, Taylor, Myrick and Emma Crampton, Emily and Ethan Goldsworthy, Makenzie, Bailey and Joey Wiegand, and Allie, Jimmy and Jack Velten. She received the Senior Service Award in 1993 presented by the Duneland Chamber of Commerce. Dorothy was a board member of the Duneland YMCA, Dunes Girl Scout Council, and Visiting Nurse Association. She was a founding member of the Chesterton Beta Gamma Upsilon Sorority and served as its first president. Later she served as president, vice-president and treasurer of the National Beta Gamma Society. She also held leadership positions in the Porter County Cancer Society, the Chesterton Women’s Club, the Valparaiso Women’s Club, the Indiana Federation of Clubs of Porter County, the Porter County Republican Club, the March of Dimes, and the Valparaiso University Guild. A funeral service will be held at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering on Monday, May 15th at 5:30 PM with Rev. Brooks Heck officiating. Family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be at Chesterton Cemetery in Chesterton, Indiana.
