It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Voelkl Pepper, on September 11, 2024, a beloved mother, friend, and accomplished administrator who touched the lives of many. Born on March 26, 1932, in Dayton, Ohio, Dorothy spent her life bringing joy and warmth to those around her. She graduated from Julienne Catholic High School in 1950, attended Wright State and the University of Dayton. A dedicated professional, she worked in administration for Ameritech/Ohio Bell for 30 years, showcasing her exceptional organizational skills and commitment to her job. After retirement, she volunteered at the Kettering Medical Center. Devout in her faith, she was an active member of St. George's Episcopal Church. She was an avid reader and an experienced world traveler, visiting China, Russia, the Panama Canal, and Scandinavia. Dorothy had lunch every week with her friends from St. Anthony's Elementary School,
She was joined in heaven by her beloved husband of 66 years, Anthony Pepper on November 16, 2024. Preceding her in death were her parents, Carl and Florence Voelkl; brothers, Charles, George, Raymond, and Robert Voelkl; sister, Mary Louise Voelkl Mundell; son, Thomas Anthony (Karen) Pepper; daughter, Jane Ellen Pepper; and nephew, Thomas Voelkl. Left to cherish the memory are her children, Nancy (Jeff) Pepper Thacher, and Daniel Anthony (Karen) Pepper; grandchildren, Bailey, Win, and Drew Thacher, and Thomas and Danielle Pepper; sister, Jeanne Voelkl Fox; nieces, Patricia Foley (Ken), Carla Voelkl Howley, Susie Voelkl Godfrey, Sara Wagner, Elizabeth Fox, Jennifer Mayerle, Mary Foley, Alyssa Little (Sam), and Jennifer Voelkl Nikol (Jay); nephews, Joe Voelkl (Cindy) and Bill Mundell (Barbara). Her family meant the world to her, and she was a constant source of support and inspiration.
A celebration of Dorothy's life is set to take place Saturday, March 8 at 2:00 pm at St. George's Episcopal Church, 5520 Far Hills Ave., to honor the legacy she leaves behind. Dorothy will be laid to rest in St. Francis Memorial Garden at St. George's Episcopal Church with a reception and visitation to follow at St. George’s in the Parish Hall.
