Dr. Eugene Edward Imbrogno

Beloved Physician and Family Man Passes Unexpectedly On September 8th, 2016 a pillar of the community, Dr. Eugene "Dean" Imbrogno, died tragically and unexpectedly at the age of 62. A skilled physician, acupuncturist, employer, and local business owner, Dr. Imbrogno was first and foremost a devoted husband and father. Since 1985 Dr. Imbrogno has been the Medical Director and Head Physician for MedWork Occupational Health Care. MedWork is the only locally owned practice dedicated to occupational healthcare in the Greater Dayton Area. He became the sole owner, President, and CEO of the practice in 2007. Since then MedWork expanded to two locations and currently provides occupational healthcare to over 700 companies, and hundreds of thousands of Ohio workers (including some of Dayton's largest employers - Mahle Behr, DMAX, Dayton Children's Health, Fuyao, Kettering Health Network, Premier Health and the City of Dayton Employees). In addition, he served as the Medical Director for several regional client companies and was an advisor to numerous state committees on worker's compensation and occupational medicine. Until his sudden passing, Dr. Imbrogno worked tirelessly to improve work conditions and availability of preventative and acute treatment options for his clients and patients. He led his own employees through a quiet, inspiring example and insisted that human touch and an open ear made all the difference in work and life. Dean was born and raised in Lorain, OH, where he excelled as a scholar-athlete at Lorain High School. He then attended The Ohio State University, graduating with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and went on to medical school at Wright State University. There he completed his residency in Emergency Medicine. While working in the emergency department at Miami Valley Hospital, Dr. Imbrogno was first introduced to Occupational Medicine, which would become his hallmark career. He then received further training in Occupational Medicine at the University of Cincinnati and also completed a Masters of Public Health from the University of Michigan. The son of Italian immigrant Edward Imbrogno and Esther Bizcykowski, Dean was born February 1, 1954 in Lorain, OH. In high school he wrestled and played football as a running back. Classmates looked up to him and to this day remember him as intelligent, athletic, mature, and most importantly humble. Cultivating an insatiable curiosity and a lifelong passion for learning, he excelled in his undergraduate studies at OSU. He spent his free time playing foosball and ping pong, and was an R.A. At Wright State he met the love of his life and future wife, a fellow med student, Diane Marie Foley (retired Anesthesiologist at Kettering Hospital). They affirmed their lifelong dedication to each other through marriage on September 6, 1980. They would go on to raise three boys, Brian (radiologist, Columbus), Tyler (musician, Denver) and David (engineer, Dayton). His favorite pastimes included golfing, boating, reading, watching movies, family holidays, and travelling, and he was equally at home with a hot dog at the ballpark or a glass of scotch and a cigar on the deck of his Norris Lake house. To his family, friends, and everyone who knew him, Dean was a rock and an anchor. People came to him for advice, and he could always calmly and confidently offer sound guidance. He also approached every aspect of life with an open mind and heart. He found stability in tradition and family values but always strived to understand different perspectives, worldviews, and alternative ideas about medicine and spirituality. He was loved and respected by everyone who knew him, and will be sorely missed. Dean was preceded in death by his father Edward, and is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Diane; children, Brian Imbrogno, MD, Tyler Imbrogno, David Imbrogno; mother, Esther Imbrogno; sister, Dianne DeHayes; brothers, Daniel (Karrie) and Edward (Terri) Imbrogno; sisters-in-law, Helen (Jeff) Owen and Carol Foley; brother-in-law, Shawn Foley; and many other nieces, nephews family members and friends. Family will greet friends from 5:00pm-9:00pm on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering, OH. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at St. Henry's Catholic Church, 6696 Springboro Pike Dayton, OH. Burial will follow at David's Cemetery. The family would appreciate flowers, but donations may also be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Homeless Shelter at 124 W Apple St, Dayton, OH 45402 in memory of Dr. Imbrogno.
