DIEHL, Dr. George A. educator, died on March 10, 2006, at the Lincoln Park Manor nursing home in Kettering, Ohio. He was 97. He was born in Cincinnati on June 29, 1908, the eldest child of George W. and Caroline Steinmetz Diehl. He received his BA and MA degrees from the University of Cincinnati, and subsequently earned a PhD from Yale University’s School of Forestry. He spent 43 years at the Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, as a biology teacher. He co-authored a science textbook used at the school. In 1996, he was awarded the school’s “Outstanding Masters Award” by the alumni association. He was well known for the walking tours he conducted to view the trees on campus, many of which he planted himself. He married Nan McAuley of New Hope, Pennsylvania, in 1947. She was a nurse at the school. She preceded him in death. Dr. Diehl is survived by a sister, Dorothy Diehl Smallwood of Kettering, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Ruth Diehl of Cincinnati; and by numerous nephews and nieces. A Mass of Resurrection will take place on Saturday, March 18, at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Kettering, Ohio, at 11:00 a.m., to be followed by a reception. There will be a Memorial Mass on Saturday, March 25, at the Church of St. Anne in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, at 11:00 a.m. Internment will immediately follow at St. Martin’s Catholic Cemetery in New Hope, Pennsylvania. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements in care of Routsong Funeral Home.
