NELSON, Lois N., Dr. age 72, of Kettering, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Hospice of Dayton. Dr. Nelson received her Bachelor of Arts (Speech), Master of Education and Doctor of Education from the University of California, Los Angeles. Her fields of specialization were Medical Education, Curriculum Development, Research, Faculty Development, Human Development, Interaction Analysis and Leadership. Her main affiliation was Professor of Education at San Francisco State University for 14 years. Dr. Nelson's professional experiences include Adjunct Professor of Education, The McGregor School at Antioch University, Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Southern California. Most recently, she was an Associate Clinical Professor in the department of Family Medicine at Wright State University, and Coordinator of Program Development and Evaluation, Family Practice Residency Program at Miami Valley Hospital. She had 15 articles published in professional journals; wrote three books of which one, '' The Adventures of Millie the Purse'', published March 2002, will soon be released in Dayton. Dr. Nelson delivered 32 presentations throughout the United States, including ''Teacher Leadership'', ''Strategies for Pre-School Education'', ''Assessing the Health Needs of Adolescents''. Of her 19 university activities, one of her most prestigious activities included the position of Consulting Editor for the ''Journal of Educational Research'' from 1972-1976. Dr. Nelson received many honors, including ''Outstanding Educator of America'' in 1973, ''Ella Victoria Dobbs Award'' in 1975 (in recognition of outstanding published research), ''Active Teaching Award'' from the American Academy of Family Physicians, listed in ''Who's Who in American Education'', ''Who's Who in American Women'' and ''Who's Who in the West''. Her organizations included: Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, League of Women Voters and the College Women's Club. Dr. Nelson is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dr. Morton Nelson; son and daughter-in-law, Steven & Monica Nelson of Chicago, IL; brother, Steven Miller; 2 sisters, Joan Miller and Mary Bender all of CA; and numerous nieces. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 28 at 10:30 AM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering with Chaplain Alan Barone officiating. Entombment in David's Mausoleum.
