He is preceded in death by brothers, David Studebaker and Arthur Studebaker; sister, Lucille Studebaker Bridge, and the woman he adored and wife of 56 years, Sue (Toops) Studebaker. Studebaker; daughter's in law, Susan Studebaker and Mary Studebaker; grandchildren, Christina Gonzalez, Alex Gonzalez, Caroline Studebaker, Samantha Studebaker and Porter Studebaker. Richard served 3 years in the Air Force during-WW2, as 2nd Lt. and navigator. He graduated from the Ohio State University College of Optometry in 1951 and set up private practice in Oakwood. Richard and Sue were ardent antique collectors and history buffs, and lived in the oldest house in Montgomery County which they dubbed "Quaker Hill" in 1958. He and Sue allowed their home to be on tour numerous times to benefit the Centerville Historical society, and he was recently honored by the Centerville Foundation for his contributions over the years to the area. Richard's pride and joy was his 1931 Studebaker President Roadster, which he restored, and displayed at car shows and parades. A skilled amateur architect and stone mason, he had a keen eye for design. A lover of history, he and Sue helped found the Dayton Antiques Study Club. They also enjoyed travel, and traveled many times touring Europe. Always an upbeat optimist, he coined a saying which he oft repeated, "Remember, you're having more fun than you think you are".
