ROH, Dr. Won Byung, forty-year resident of Ohio, formerly from South Korea, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2006. Born on January 20, 1940 in Haesanjin, he was a Professor of Engineering Physics with Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), was educated at Engineering School of Seoul National University, and received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Ohio State University. He guided the research of Ph.D. students and M.S. students. His research interests span technology areas covering optics, lasers, laser spectroscopy, and nonlinear optics. As a member of Dayton Korean United Methodist Church, he helped set up a scholarship program for the benefit of UTS students in financial need. He served as a trustee for both of the United Methodist Mission Society of Dayton and United Theological Seminary. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gap Byung and Kyung Byung Roh. He is missed by his wife Inja, two sons Mark and Scott, both of San Diego, California, sister Eunhee, and brother Woo Byung of Seoul, many beloved colleagues, and friends. Family will receive friends on Sunday, July 9, 2006 from 3-4:00 PM with a funeral service at 4:00 PM with additional visiting until 5:30 PM at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. A reception will follow at the Presidential Banquet Center, 4548 Presidential Way, Kettering (between Marshall Rd. and Bigger Rd.) In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund of United Theological Seminary of Dayton, 4501 Denlinger Rd., Trotwood, OH 45426.
