TUURI, Dwight T., M.D. of Kettering, Ohio passed away on February 21, 2024 at age 91. He was born on September 8, 1932, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to John E. Tuuri and Lena C. (Wagner) Tuuri. He is survived by his wife Mary Helen Toyne. Married July 16, 1960, at St. Albert The Great Church in Kettering, Ohio. Other survivors include a son, Timothy (Janet) Tuuri and daughters, Teresa Flasco of Copley, Ohio, Tamara (Kevin) Baird of Solon, Ohio Tracy (Michael) Moros of Indianapolis, Indiana, twelve grandchildren (Blake, Nate, Mitch, Hailey, Maddie, Peyton (Lina), Lauren, Matthew, Lydia, Brian, Emma, Sean) great grandchild (Peyton Jr) and many nieces and nephews from the Mullenix and Trimble families. Dr. Tuuri was a graduate of Kent State University (BS in Chemistry) 1953 and the University of Cincinnati (Doctor of Medicine) 1957. His post graduate training in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology occurred at Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center 1958-60 and 1962-64. He served in the US Public Health Service, Division of Indian Health in Alaska, 1960-62. His professional career in Dayton, Ohio extended from 1964 to 1998. During that time, he served as Founder and Director of Cardiology, Dayton Children’s Medical Center. His primary goals were to provide cardiology care to the children of the Miami Valley and education of medical students and pediatric residents. Teaching appointments: Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics, University of Cincinnati, 1969 and Clinical Professor of Pediatrics, Wright State University School of Medicine, 1975. Awards: Wallace B. Taggart, M.D. Dayton Children’s Medical Center, 1982; Professional Excellence in the Practice of Medicine, WSU Academy of Medicine, 1984; Honoree, Dayton Area Heart Association, 1988; Honoree, Miami Valley American Heart Association, 2004. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur at 12:00PM on Friday, March 22 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 3033 Far Hills Ave, Dayton, OH 45429. Family and friends may visit from 11:00AM at the church until the time of service. A Celebration of Life will follow from 2:00PM to 5:00PM at the Grand Room, Bethany Village, 6443 Bethany Village Dr., Dayton, OH 45459. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Albert The Great Catholic Church or Dayton Children’s Medical Center.
